This topic was carefully chosen to address the issue of “my friend wore it, I want it too”.
I understand that picking clothes to wear can be really tough and when shopping, it can be really exhausting. However, this does not translate into a license to wear clothes, shoes, makeup or even hairclours that do not match your skin tone.
For clarification, you should note that a skin tone (also called undertone) is different from your complexion (colour of your skin). Regardless of the weather, your skin tone will never change though your complexion may slightly vary. We have three different skin tones: cool, warm and neutral.
So here, I will address this fashion killer once and for all. To do this, we have to first know our skin tone, so stick around while I share a few hints to help with this
· You might have a neutral skin tone if you can’t tell if your veins are green or blue while if your veins appear green, you have a warm skin tone and if they are either blue or purple, you have a cool skin tone
· Typically, cool toned people have blue, gray or green eyes while people with warm skin tone have brown, hazel or amber eyes.
· Hold a white paper to your face, look in the mirror and see how your skin looks in comparison to the white paper. If it looks yellowish or sallow beside the white paper, you have a warm skin tone but if it appears gray, your skin is probably an olive complexion with a neutral skin tone (the green from your complexion and the yellowish undertone combines to create this result). If your skin appears pink, rosy, or bluish-red, you have a cool undertone.
· If you have acne or any condition that might mask your skin tone, you can ask a friend to look at the skin directly behind the shell of your ear, as this area is less likely to be affected. In case it is yellowish, your skin tone is warm, while if it’s either pink or rosy, then you have a cool undertone.
Now that we can identify our skin tones, it’s time to talk about the best colours to wear.
If you are on the warm side of the color wheel, you should consider red, peach, coral, orange, amber, gold, and yellow. You should look great in “warmer” versions of cool colors, like olive, moss, orchid, and violet-red. Neutrals that are best for you are taupe, cappuccino, cream, and mushroom gray. Avoid colors like icy blues or jewel tones like sapphire because they can wash you out and make your skin look gray.
For a cool skin tone, colours like bright blue, emerald, and deep purple will look great on you. Endeavor to avoid orange, tomato red, and strong yellows, which can clash with your skin completely.
If you have a neutral skin tone, it’s advisable to choose colors like dusty pink, jade green, corn silk yellow, or light blue. Oversaturated colors like electric blue and magenta can overwhelm your skin tone, but there’s one huge exception to this: wear a bright red — you will look amazing.
