There’s a belief among some folks that the shoe we wear reveals who we are. If that’s true, then how we treat the shoes we wear reveals even more what is important to us.
The weather has remained very dry and dusty! So today’s post is basically useful tips on taking care of your shoe during the dry season.
We have the rainy season and dry season each characterized by a set of unique conditions. The dry season is usually…well dry and dusty and this can brings with it the challenge of keeping your shoe clean. Hopefully, you will find the tips below helpful:
- The first rule is to pick shoes that are ideal for the season. Most people tend to avoid bright colors or shoes with open toes.
- Avoid wearing the same pair of shoes two days in a row. Ideally, your shoe requires at least a day to dry due to feet perspiration. It’s advisable to have two pairs and alternate them.
- For your leather shoes, investing in shoe shine supplies is the best thing you can do for your shoes. A typical shoe shine kit will contain: a shoe polish, polishing cloth, wilt brush, horsehair brush etc. Giving your leather shoe a nice clean after a day of use will help protect and extend the life span of the shoe.
- For patent leather shoes, clean the shoe with lukewarm water and plain soap. For suede or nubuck footwear use a suede brush to remove dirt and dust trapped in the nap, this keeps the nap looking fresh. You can also use a suede bloc for tough stains and marks.
- Avoid exposing your shoe to direct heat, it’s best to air shoes at room temperature. It prevents leather from cracking.
- Wash your trainers by hand and avoid machine washing(The things I see people do *sigh*). Machine wash can ruin the structure of your trainers even with a gentle wash.
An important fact to remember is that all shoes are not made equal. Some might require more attention than others.
