Let’s Talk Depression & Suicide

So within the week, I was talking to a friend that lost his partner last year and in the middle of the conversation, I asked how he’s doing. You know the usual response people give to such question right? yes, he gave it.

My spirit knew he was lying so, I asked again and this time, I asked how he’s been dealing with the loss, he started crying after the question.

Spoke about how everybody keeps saying he’s strong but the last few months have been the toughest…

Hence this conversation- the saddest people wear the biggest smiles and they wear it so well that when you hear about them being depressed or committing suicide, you’ll be shocked to your bones.

Life is such that, there’s is always something to go through at one point or the other and what might seem minute to you, might be a battle for someone else.

D you know that researchers at The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) estimate that at least 6 million men suffer from depressive disorders, including suicidal thoughts, annually? Yes, this is true and if you have a friend, colleague or even you battling depression, here are ways to combat it.

  • getting regular exercise, even just going for routine walks around your neighborhood
  • journaling or writing down your thoughts
  • communicating openly with friends and family
  • seeking professional help

While if you think someone is at immediate risk of self-harm or hurting another person:

• Call your local emergency number.

• Stay with the person until help arrives.

• Remove any guns, knives, medications, or other things that may cause harm.

• Listen, but don’t judge, argue, threaten, or yell.

Pay attention t the people around you, help someone and save a soul.

Thank you.
